CCR Top 25 Rankings

CONCACAF Club Rankings - Top 25 Clubs in North America - April 2, 2012

1.)  Santos Laguna (Mex) - Santos remains at the top of the CCR and the Primera Division after beating Toluca 3-1.  They have won their last 5 matches.  Santos will be back in CONCACAF Champions League play for the final leg of the CCL Semifinals against Toronto FC (69) this week.  The aggregate is currently 1-1, but Toronto FC has been struggling in MLS play this year and the game is going to be in Mexico.  Santos will also be playing Estudiantes Tecos (48) later in the week.  There are two questions, 1.) Does Santos focus on winning in the CCL or winning in Primera Division?  2.)  If they focus on both, can they go the distance and win both?

2.)  UANL (Mex) - UANL remains 2nd in the CCR and 1 point behind Santos after beating Morelia.  UANL will be meeting a Top 5 CCR team for the second week in a row when they face Monterrey (4).  This game will have implications in both the club rankings and in Primera Division.  Currently, Monterrey only trails UANL by 3 points in the Primera Division standings.  A win this week could put them in 2nd place.  Monterrey does have a CCL game midweek, so that should provide some help for UANL.

3.)  Morelia (Mex) - Morelia remains in 3rd in the CCR, even after having lost to UANL.  They are currently only 1 point ahead of Monterrey in the Primera Division standings.  Morelia faces a weak Atlas (57) team this week.  Atlas only has 2 wins in the Clausura and Morelia should pull out a draw, at a minimum.

4.)  Monterrey (Mex) - Monterrey moved into the CCR Top 5 with their 3-2 win over America.  Monterrey has two big games this week.  They will face UNAM (19) in the final leg of the CCL Semifinals this week.  Currently, Monterrey holds a 3-0 aggregate lead over UNAM.  Monterrey then goes on to play UANL (2), which will have big implications in the CCR and the Primera Division standings.

5.)  Seattle Sounders FC (MLS) - Seattle remains in the CCR Top 5 after a close loss to the San Jose Earthquakes (33).  The Sounders will be facing DC United (58) this coming week.  DC United is coming off a big win (their first win of the season) against FC Dallas.  For the Sounders to remain at the top of the CCR, they will have to pull out a win against DC United.  A draw or less will only hurt them.
