Weekly Top 25 CONCACAF Club Rankings

CONCACAF Club Rankings - Top 25 Clubs in North America and Latin America - Aug 28, 2012

   

Mexican clubs  regain all five top spots this week.  Deportivo Saprissa (Costa Rica) was able to work its way into the top five last week, however, a draw against Alajuelense was all it took for them to fall out to number 6.

Also, this week, we have the third matchday of the Champions League Group stage:

Tuesday, 8/28
8PM - Toronto FC vs. Santos Laguna, Fox Soccer Channel, Univision Deportes
10PM - Real Esteli vs. Alajuelense, Univision Deportes

Wednesday, 8/29
8PM - Guadalajara vs. W. Connection, Univision Deportes, Fox Soccer 2 Go
10PM - Municipal vs. Monterrey, Univision Deportes, Fox Soccer 2 Go
10PM - LA Galaxy vs. Puerto Rico Islanders, Fox Soccer Channel, Univision Deportes 2

Thursday, 8/30
8PM - Tauro vs. Herediano, Univision Deportes 2, Fox Soccer 2 Go
8PM - Caledonia AIA vs Seattle Sounders, Fox Soccer Channel
10PM - Olimpia vs. Houston Dynamo, Fox Soccer Channel

After this matchday, there will be a break in play until September 18-20.

Now, on to this week's rankings...

1.)  Toluca (Liga MX) -  Toluca was able to hold on to the top spot with a 1-1 draw against UANL this past week.  Toluca scored early with a Lucas Silva goal.  Silva is tied for the lead in Liga MX with 4 goals.  Toluca has 2 matches again this week.  The first is on the road against Puebla (51) in Copa Mexico on Thursday followed by America (7) at home in league play on Sunday.   

2.)  Tijuana (Liga MX) - The Xolos defeated America this past week 1-0.  For US Men's National Team fans, Edgar Castillo started and received a yellow card at the 70' mark and Joe Corona started and was subbed out at the 79' mark.  Tijuana has 2 matches this week.  They go on the road to face UNAM (21) in Copa Mexico on Tuesday and then face the Jaguares (50) in league play on Friday.

3.)  Monarcas Morelia (Liga MX) -  The Monarcas moved up 2 spots with a 3-1 win over Leon.  Morelia will be going on the road to face Leon (5) again in Copa Mexico on Tuesday.  They then face UNAM (21) at home on Friday.

4.)  Cruz Azul  (Liga MX) -  Cruz gets back into this week's Top 5 with a 1-0 win over UNAM.  Cruz Azul goes on the road this week to face Atlas (22) in Copa Mexico on Wednesday.  They then face Pachuca (30) at home on Saturday.

5.)  Leon (Liga MX) -  Leon just barely edged out Saprissa for this week's last Top 5 spot.  Leon lost to Morelia 1-3 at home.  As discussed earlier, Leon will be facing the Monarcas (3) again at home in Copa Mexico.  They then go on the road to face San Luis (71) on Saturday in league play.
